Bates started trading in 1942 under the name of G. H. Bates, in the City of London. Our main activity then was office equipment and stationary supply to the local business community. By the early eighties Bates were supplying, installing and maintaining the very first Olivetti, Adler and Amstrad word processors to a number of its clients. During this period developments in Information Technology began to accelerate, and demand for equipment increased. By the mid-nineties Bates were supplying a wide range of hardware and software solutions to the SME, corporate and healthcare sectors.

Changes in the information technology marketplace made it apparent the need to re-establish the business as a full service IT solutions provider. In 1997, Bates InfoTech was formed.
